Ministry in Bangalore The largest Family Ministry in India today was started in Bangalore in the year 1998 by a few friends who decided to strengthen their own family life after attending a family camp. They resolved after the conference to be committed to their own marriage and wanted to help families, irrespective of church backgrounds, who are battling in the area of family life due to urban pressure. Hence UIM was registered as a religious trust in Karnataka in Oct, 1998. Now an established Family Ministry, UIM has it s headquarters in Bangalore and works in two other regions. The Southern region covers a large area and includes the states of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka (other than Bangalore, Mysore, Tumkur, Kolar and Hosur), Kerala and Tamilnadu. Bangalore at a glance Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, is India s third most populous city and fifth-most populous urban agglomeration. Decades ago it was known as the Pensioner s Paradise which got a new name ‘IT Capital of India’ for its software exports and software professionals. Bangalore is ranked among the 10 fastest growing cities in the world; which has many on-going and proposed projects in the industrial and Information Technology sectors. Between January and June 2009, as many as 1,400 couples in the city decided they cannot live with each other and filed for divorce in family courts. It says 25 divorce cases are filed every day (Times of India, June – 5, 2009). Suicide: Bangalore is the Suicide Capital of India A report by the World Health Organisation states that 17 out of every 1 lakh persons commit suicide in Bangalore.
